Get a taste of London at the top five Christmas markets

If you are holidaying in the UK and have yet to finish off your Christmas shopping, then you will be glad to know there are plenty of exciting places to go shopping in London.

The great thing about the city is it doesn’t just have an array of luxury and popular retailers to visit, it is also renowned for its markets.

Markets are incredibly special at this time of year and they really help to give you a flavour of the culture and authenticity behind one of the world’s greatest cities.

This time of year is particularly great to explore London because there are a variety of Christmas stalls and attractions to get your teeth into.

There are hundreds of events and stalls spread across the capital and it was difficult to pick out the top five. However, after racking our brains, we have finally managed – with great difficulty – to select some of the best and the brightest venues where you can pick up unique and treasured gifts for your loved ones.

Hyde Park

Hyde Park

Hyde Park for the moment has been transformed from a spectacular display of stunning greenery, to a magical and sparkling land of seasonal entertainment.

Not only will you find a variety of London attractions on offer but there are not one, but several Christmas markets where you can pick up some wonderful presents.

Everything from handmade crafts, to jewellery and culinary delights can be accessed in these picturesque markets.

It is open every day until January 5th except Christmas Day.

Hyde Park

Chelsea Physic Garden

Whatever you do don’t miss out on the Christmas fair at Chelsea Physic Garden.

It is one of London’s oldest botanic gardens and this season, stall holders will be selling an extensive range of delectable, unusual and innovative gifts, including but not limited to ceramics, garden plants, chocolates and cashmere clothing.

If you are feeling particularly creative, you can also participate in the crafty Christmas creations family workshop. Here you can create your very own seasonal decorations, cards and presents, from natural and recyclable materials.

The workshops will be held from 11am, 12.15pm and 2pm on November 30th to December 1st.

Real Food Festival at Southbank

If you are hungry for something different this winter, then be sure to pop along to the Real Food Festival at Southbank Centre.

One of the fantastic things about this market is its focus on organic, natural foods and biodegradable products.

Here you can pick up a number of creative gifts including  wooden chopping boards from sustainable woodlands and craft kitchen knives, as well as homemade mince pies, artisan boutique chocolates, organic turkeys, and botanicals.

The market is open from December 19th until December 22nd.

camden market

Camden Market

This is one of London’s most popular markets, and with good reason too. It is the home of alternative, independent fashion labels, and sells an almost inexhaustible supply of food from different parts of the world.

From Thursday December 12th until December 14th, you will be able to visit the Christmas Night Markets, with traders selling their wares from 10am – 10pm.

Some of the area’s most amazing bars and restaurants will also be open until late.

Portobello Road Market

This is one the world’s largest antiques markets and here you can pick up something a little different.

It also stocks fruit and vegetables, brand new goods, second hand and vintage items, fashion and hot food.

Stallholders will be selling a range of festive fare throughout December.
