Top 5 Beaches in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

cana bavaro

Punta Cana has over 35 kilometers of beautiful white sand beaches.  Up and down the coast you’ll find picturesque beaches with palm trees and crystal clear water, but there are some spots that are above and beyond the best.  Here are the top 5 beaches in Punta Cana so you know where to go when you visit this jewel in the Caribbean.

Playa Bavaro

By far the best beach area is Playa Bavaro (image above).  It’s a tourist beach but has beautiful white powdery sand and tall palm trees lining the edge.  It’s vast so you can take a nice stroll up and down and spend your time experiencing this immaculate area.  To get there you’ll take the public access road and park your car in the parking lot at the end.

El Cortecito

Another spectacular beach is El Cortecito, in the area of Bavaro.  It’s more like a small town than a big tourist area with just gift shops.  Here you’ll find restaurants, bars, markets and stores in addition to the beach.  And getting there is easy.

Arena Gordo

Then there’s the Arena Gordo.  Translated it loosely means Fat Sand Beach.  It’s big and expansive with a slope down to the water.  Because of its shallow water, the color is a beautiful blue and is perfect for travelers with small kids.  To access it you’ll need to stay in one of the resorts that connect to it or find a public access entrance.

Macao beach

If you don’t mind driving further you can go to Macao beach.  It’s remote and does not have the tourist amenities you may or may be happy without.  It’s a great place to go surfing and does have surf shops and places to rent and learn surfing.  It’s also a local favorite.  If you want a more local experience than this beach is for you.

Uvero Alto

And if you want to go even further out from the main areas of Punta Cana, you can go to one of the least known but best beaches- Uvero Alto.  You’ll need a map or very good directions to get there but it’s often cited and a favorite beach for those who have made the trip to Punta Cana and were willing to drive farther out than the main tourist spots.  It’s a secluded beach with more beautiful white sand and crystal clear water.  And with few people, you’ll experience paradise without the hassle of large amounts of people.

Uvero Alto

Now that you know what the best beach spots are, you’ll need to search for the best hotels in punta cana.  From there you can take day trips to experience these spectacular beaches only the Caribbean and Punta Cana can offer.
